Zanchi’s Correspondence

The following survey of letters to and from Zanchi (as well as a few letters about him) is based on Zanchi’s published correspondence: Epistolarum Theologicarum libri II, in: Operum Theologicorum D. Hieronymi Zanchii, Tomus Octavus (1619), 35-205.

Names, dates and places in this list follows the original as closely as possible; when they could be unambiguously identified, the common English word is chosen. If date and place were not explicitly given, it was sometimes possible to deduce them from the contents of the letter. We can assume that the letters by Zanchi himself were published on the basis of the copies he stored for his own archive.

Note that the 1619 edition of Zanchi’s correspondence does not follow a fully consistent order of arrangement: in most cases, letters to and from the same person or related to the same subject were put together, while the chronological order is often distorted. The survey contains a brief indication of the contents of each letter, which makes it easier to select letters for further scrutiny.
